VMG Group opens a modern furniture factory in Naujoji Akmenė

VMG Group has opened a new modern furniture factory in the Akmenė FEZ. The investment in this industrial facility amounts to over 82 million euros.

One of the most modern furniture factories in the Baltic region is the second factory of the company in the Akmenė FEZ. In 2020, one of the largest plywood factories in Europe was opened here, with an investment of over 150 million euros. In September, it is planned to open the third factory – a sustainable construction and renovation construction factory, with initial investments with partners totaling almost 100 million euros. The development and production processes of the factory will be managed by VMG Akmenės baldai, which belongs to VMG Wood Invest (formerly Western Wood Group).

“The new furniture factory is intended for large production batches for major furniture retail chains in Western Europe, Scandinavia, and the United States. In the first phase, the production capacity installed in the factory will allow us to produce about 13,000 cubic meters of products per year, with an annual value of about 60 million euros. However, we will consistently expand these capabilities by introducing new production lines,” said Ingrida Grikpėdienė, the head of VMG Wood Invest.

The factory will create about 500 new jobs over the next two years, with 200 to be created by the end of this year. The company currently advertises dozens of open positions for operators, shift masters, laboratory assistants, production planning engineers, packaging masters, and other specialists on its website.

VMG Wood Invest consolidated sales in the furniture sector grew by more than a third last year, reaching 323 million euros. The 48% growth in income from plywood production contributed most to the rapid growth. Sales in the furniture manufacturing sector increased by over 30%. Currently, over 90% of the company’s production is exported to over 40 countries worldwide.

The VMG Group is developing its activities in five strategic directions – wood processing and the production of sustainable wood products, renewable energy, industrial innovation and technology, engineering wood construction, and infrastructure and industrial real estate management.
