New investor will provide services for heavy transport
Akmenė Free Economic Zone (FEZ) has signed an agreement with a new investor Akmenės Servisas. The company will invest EUR 1.1 million by mid-2025 and create up to 25 jobs.
The new investor plans to expand at Akmenė FEZ in two phases. In the first stage, workshop for heavy-duty vehicle repairs will be established by the end of this year. The company will offer services including heavy vehicle repairs, computer diagnostics, technical maintenance. This phase will cost EUR 900,000, during which a workshop building of nearly 1,100 square meters will be developed.
In the second phase, by mid-2025, Akmenės Servisas will set up a wash for various heavy vehicles—freight, municipal, construction, etc.—on the site. This investment will add another EUR 200,000.
Throughout the project, the company plans to create 20-25 jobs, mostly for heavy transport repair and maintenance technicians.
According to Akmenės Servisas CEO Romualdas Balčytis, Akmenė’s FEZ was chosen for expansion due to the already large business community operating in the area and smooth establishment processes. Additionally, the Akmenė region had a strong production infrastructure but very limited opportunities for heavy transport.
“In just five years, Akmenė FEZ has become one of the largest advanced industrial centers in Northern and Western Lithuania, with a corresponding demand for modern heavy vehicle maintenance services, making it both an honor and a good business opportunity to settle in such a business community. On the other hand, we see further potential not only in the FEZ but also in the ambitious Akmenė district municipality and the Northwestern Lithuania region. The Akmenė FEZ team deserves special recognition for the smooth and fast start process,” commented R. Balčytis.
Akmenė FEZ CEO Lina Mockutė welcomes the new investor, who will create evident added value for the area’s community. In the near future, the free zone expects to announce more expansion news related not only to services but also to production.
“We are working strategically to expand our investor portfolio far beyond a single large business group. Akmenės Servisas is a great start; we are in negotiations with several innovative Lithuanian and foreign manufacturers, and we hope to bring even more added value and creativity to Akmenė district soon,” says L. Mockutė.
Currently, Akmenė FEZ hosts companies such as the chipboard manufacturer VMG Wood Solutions, heat supplier Rietuva, furniture manufacturer VMG Akmenės Baldai, equipment maintenance and process automation company VMG Service Akmenė, construction wood solutions manufacturer VMG Lignum Construction and real estate developer Akmenės Projektai. The free zone specializes in the wood, construction, energy and logistics sectors but is also open to other business segments.
In 2023, the total turnover of Akmenė FEZ investors reached EUR 120.3 million, with EUR 3.8 million paid in income and social security taxes, while purchases of goods and services in Lithuania exceeded EUR 170 million.
